The ability to create is a gift. Imagination allows me to visualize images. The work to the process is, to maintain the visual, while the hands make visible what the mind sees. And that is no easy task, .... sometimes. On days, when something divine guides the process of creation, a special kind of synergy occurs. The focus is great, the image is strong and steadfast, thinking need not even be necessary beause I am in the flow of the act of creation. It is a kind of heavenly place where time stops and art just happens. It is when the work seems to create itself. It is the most splendid place I know in art. But my muse is so fickle! Sometimes she is there guiding me and on other days she is silent, letting me find my own way. I used to think this was the most frustration time in front of my easle, but I have learned to embrace these "silent" hours because in them comes learning, experimenting and a fearlessness to create.

 

I am not the professionally schooled artist. For a great many years, I felt like less than an artist because of this. Until one day, when it dawned on me how many famous artists had never stepped foot into an art school studio. So I got out of  my own way, took hold of  my dream and I have never looked back!
